OPTIKEY is authenticated using a reader/correlator which optically verifies by comparing the OPTIKEY phase mask on the item to a reference phase mask in the reader. No interpretation or extensive operator training is required.

OPTIKEY is unique in that the very act of copying the analog phase mask results in a copy with a corresponding loss of fidelity. Such copies fail to authenticate when used in an OPTIKEY reader/correlator.

OPTIKEY does not require complex systems or infrastructure to operate. OPTIKEY can be configured as a stand alone or as part of a more comprehensive system.

OPTIKEY need not replace current systems such as RFID, SMART Chip etc. For example, OPTIKEY can be used to covertly augment security systems that require positive authentication and verification. Since the OPTIKEY is written once, any tampering or copying would be immediately evident and fail to authenticate.

What makes OPTIKEY unique?

Outdated authentication systems often relied on user interpretation of seals, watermarks, holograms etc. This method was unreliable since it was a visual authentication of the item. Successive generations in authentication and verification technology relied on digital technology and varying levels of encryption. What this meant was that much of the data we used to determine the authenticity of an item was shuffled and encrypted to prevent unauthorized users from copying and/or modifying the information. With current advances in technology, much of this digital data can be reproduced with complete confidence using readily available electronics, including laptop computers, color laser printers, smart chip reader/writers etc. In fact, the most recent advances in this field of security are simply improvements in the encryption of the same digital data.
